Whatever the final government deal is with the B.C. Teachers' Federation (BCTF), and whenever it's settled, the BCTF must quit opposing economic growth if it ever hopes to accomplish its long-term salary and class size goals.

Dear Editor: When I read this morning that 20 of Greater Vancouver's 21 mayors had agreed on a new comprehensive transportation plan I knew without reading the story that it would be Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan who was opposed.

Dear Editor: It's hard to be hopeful that the June 10 mandate given to education minister Peter Fassbender by premier Christy Clark is meant to produce a less dysfunctional relationship with the province's teachers.

Dear Editor: I have worked as a teacher for 33 years in the public school system in British Columbia, the past 12 of which have been as a secondary counsellor.

Writing an editorial during collective bargaining is akin to washing your car - a settlement (rain) is sure to happen as soon as this goes to press. But that would be a good thing, so let's cut to the chase.

As far as wish lists go, the one put together by Metro Vancouver's mayors when it comes to future transit and transportation improvements is indeed an impressive one. It's got something for everyone, pretty much no matter where they live.
