At Fortius Sport and Health, anyone who has a body and is motivated, is an athlete. As an integrated athletic development centre, they are dedicated to helping people of all ages and abilities achieve their health and fitness goals.

“While we are proud to host a number of Olympic, professional and elite athletes at Fortius, they only represent one portion of our clientele,” shared Craig Thompson, Fortius CEO.

“We operate under the ‘same door’ philosophy, meaning whether you’re a 9-year-old rehabbing a sprained ankle, an Olympic athlete going for gold, or a senior trying to improve your health and fitness, you’re welcome through the same door.”

The benefits, as you could imagine, are immense.

At Fortius, there is a multidisciplinary, integrated team of practitioners covering everything from sport medicine to physiotherapy to nutrition to performancevision, who work together to ensure each client has the best treatment plan for success.

Beyond the personnel, it is the state-of-the-art technology that truly makes it a one-of-a-kind centre. Some of their most cutting-edge services include a Hydroworx™ 2000  underwater treadmill (the only one in Western Canada), performance vision training, 3DRun analysis and PowerWatts™indoor cycling.

Fortius was the vision of Founder Scott Cousens, who donated $25 million dollars to start the project—the largest philanthropic gift in Canadian sport history. Owned by a charity called the Fortius Foundation, the facility operates as a non-profit.

“Scott’s vision was an integrated athlete development centre that would operate as a non-profit community asset,” said Thompson. “All of our revenues go back to the Fortius Foundation which supports programs like our free KidsMove physical literacy program, and BACK in the Game youth rehabilitation program.”

With the sport medicine and science institute, the double gymnasium, the strength and conditioning programs and the 15,000 square foot fitness centre– and that’s not even half of the list – Fortius is the one-stop-shop for anyone looking to achieve health, rehabilitation, performance or fitness goals.
