Have you made plans for the long weekend yet? Burnaby Village Museum, as always, will be a great destination for family fun for Victoria Day. The museum is holding its annual Victoria Day festivities on Monday, May 22 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Head to Stoney Creek on Saturday, May 13 for the Great Salmon Send-Off. It’s happening between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at 2740 Beaverbrook Cres., at the north end of the Stoney Creek Community School grounds, near Lougheed Town Centre.

Stunned. That’s the word Lindy McQueen used to describe how she felt after hearing she and her husband Jim had been named the City of Burnaby’s Outstanding Citizens of the Year for 2016 for their volunteer efforts.

A group of New Westminster elementary students showed compassion knows no borders. Nine Grade 4 students at F.W. Howay Elementary School raised more than $100 for the Burnaby-based Wildlife Rescue Association of B.C.

With the changing of the season, the Society to End Homelessness in Burnaby wants folks to go through their closets to see if they have any items to donate to the city’s less fortunate.

When Jung Eun Hwang entered a seniors’ home – first Queen’s Park Care Centre in New Westminster and later George Derby in Burnaby – it didn’t take long for his health to decline. He died within a year and a half at the age of 87 in March 2016.
