Burnaby South, Burnaby North-Seymour see increases during 2021 advance polling

More voters in Burnaby chose advance polls to cast their ballot in the federal election this year compared to Canada's 43rd election. 

According to Elections Canada, There were 17,383 votes completed in Burnaby North-Seymour during advance voting between Sept. 10 to 13, 2021, compared to 13,342 votes in 2019.

Burnaby South saw a slight increase this year with 13,442 confirmed ballots, up from 13, 329.

New Westminster-Burnaby also saw a small uptick with 15,299 compared to 2019's total of 14,866.

Nationally, Elections Canada says an estimated 5.78 million electors chose advance voting, which is an 18.4% increase from the 4,879,312 that were completed in 2019. 

In B.C., 804,116 cast their ballot early this year compared to 710,107 in 2019.

"I want to thank the electors who took advantage of advance polls for their patience and their help in making this a safe experience for everyone. I also want to thank the tens of thousands of election workers for making this possible," Chief Electoral Officer Stéphane Perrault said in a news release. 

"Canadians still have the opportunity to contribute to this great democratic exercise by voting on election day or by returning their special ballot before the September 20 deadline." 

As of publication (Sept. 16), 2021 advance polling numbers are preliminary as all polls may not be represented yet.
