Girolino-Burnaby
The Girolino event for kids is coming to Burnaby's Confederation Park on Aug. 27.

Kids of Burnaby, ready your pedals! The Girolino pedal and dash bike race is coming to Confederation Park for kids aged five to 12 on Saturday, Aug. 27.

There will be three different track lengths to pick from: kids aged eight to 12 can choose between a long and medium course (both include a 500-metre run; the long course includes a 1,600m bike ride while the medium course’s bike ride runs for 1,200m).

For the five-to-seven-year-olds, there will be a mini-course with a 400m bike ride and 200m run.

If you want to support these fierce recreational athletes, pack up a blanket and lawn chair to watch from the cheer zone — the race begins at 9 a.m. in staggered waves.

At 11 a.m., the Burnaby Firefighters are sponsoring a tasty barbecue.

Mayor Mike Hurley will present medals to participants.

The city is looking for event volunteers — if you’re interested in set-up, take-down or assisting with crafts, games or face painting, head to the city’s volunteer opportunities page.
