Editor: Under the leadership of Derek Corrigan, Burnaby was given the prestigious award for the best-managed city in all of Canada. The voters for Mr. Hurley have said it is time for a change. I believe they will give Burnaby that change.

A common refrain from the roughly 70 per cent of registered voters who don’t vote in civic elections is that their vote won’t make a difference in the end result. Ask Mary-Ann Booth if she agrees with that.

When I was growing up, conversations around cannabis didn’t exist - especially when kids were present. Beyond the “marijuana is a drug, never try it!” words of warning, the topic was totally taboo.

Editor: I was standing beside Mike Hurley at his victory celebration when Derek Corrigan came to congratulate him on his victory and concede defeat. Mr. Corrigan looked crushed and devastated.

The outcome of the municipal elections in Metro Vancouver will undoubtedly have a serious impact on the provincial political scene in a number of instances.

British Columbians begin to cast the ballots that could change how we elect our provincial leaders. We’ll either keep our current first-past-the-post (FPTP) system or adopt one of three new models of proportional representation (PR). The B.C.

This wasn’t supposed to happen. Because it rarely does. Sitting mayors who have served for multiple terms rarely lose elections. It’s even rarer for a sitting mayor to lose to someone who has never served on city council before.

Enough! It’s the day before the civic election and I have finally reached my breaking point with negative campaigning.
