Dear Humboldt, We wish we knew what to say. We wish there were magic words that could somehow make this all make sense, that could bring peace and healing to a community torn apart by grief and loss. There are no such words.

Well, things are about to finally get real over the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion project. Oh, the protests against the project and the resulting arrests were all very nice for the television news cameras and all that.

Salaries flatlined and real estate prices soared. Those were the conditions that sent droves of young people away from Burnaby and other Lower Mainland municipalities in search of a place they might someday buy or, more likely, rent.

Today’s fuel prices are a pain in the gas tank. But there doesn’t seem to be a lot we can do about it here in B.C. even as prices hit $1.55 a litre – and they could go even higher.

An open letter to Mayor Derek Corrigan: Even though I am 100 per cent in favour of the Trans Mountain pipeline, I strongly encourage you to fight it all the way. The hypocrisy of Premier Rachel Notley knows no bounds.
