Please Mum closes two local shops

Children's clothing company Please Mum has closed its doors at the Brentwood and Lougheed town centres. The closures came with little notice in early July, according to Brentwood Town Centre manager Brian Wong.

Members of the SFU Pipe Band are hoping to snag top spot in the world championships this weekend in Glasgow, Scotland. Since the early '90s, the band has often placed in the top three spots in world competition.

Gardening with 'naked ladies'

Very soon a spectacular fall flowerer with many names will be available in garden centres - today it's usually called autumn crocus after its flowering time and the shape of its large, gobletshaped flowers in purplepink, mauve or white.

The joy of blueberries

Burnaby Wal-Mart participating in Red Cross fundraising campaign

Wal-Mart Canada is running a campaign to raise money for the Red Cross at its stores until Aug. 31. The Canadian Red Cross provides disaster management and emergency relief across the country and throughout the world.

Mall turns 50

Brentwood Town Centre is having a party. The mall is celebrating its 50th birthday this year with a party on Aug. 13 with prizes, a band and fun activities, according to a press release from the centre.

Top weekend activities

Mosaic is hosting a speaker from the Canada Revenue Agency for a talk on child tax benefits and GST/HST credits. Topics covered include eligibility, the application process, documents needed for new immigrants and how the benefits are calculated.
