A Burnaby resident has earned a B.C. Book Prize for a book exploring the history of Nikkei fishermen in B.C.

Young Burnaby residents are part of the fun when Arts Umbrella’s Expressions Theatre Festival hits the stage in Vancouver. The festival is onstage May 17 to 26 at the Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island.

A Burnaby songwriter has carried of honours in the U.S.-based International Songwriting Competition. The competition has announced its 2017 winners, and among the honourable mentions is Luca Fogale.

Deer Lake Gallery is continuing its exploration of Coast Salish culture. The gallery is hosting a demonstration of traditional Coast Salish storytelling, featuring Sesmelot (Fern Gabriel). It’s on Saturday, May 19 from noon to 2 p.m.
