Loss of iconic retailer and other tenants from Burnaby shopping hub is disappointing, reader says.

The closure of Lougheed Mall's Hudson's Bay store is disappointing, a reader says.

Editor: It is really sad to see a giant iconic company such as The Hudson Bay, closing, at Lougheed mall.

As someone who has resided in Burnaby for almost 50 years, what is happening at Lougheed Mall is very disappointing. Lougheed Mall was always our mall every Saturday, Christmas times, was a real joy to shop. Now after all that time the mall has not very much to offer. Safeway is gone, H&M is gone many other small business have dropped off.

The only thing it has going for it is London Drugs and Walmart, which in most cases sells cheap merchandise. But if you are looking for that special high-quality item that you could get at the Bay, is no longer attainable.

It seems all of the changes throughout the years have been for the worse. The various newer shops are very expensive and not very good. The movie theatre is long gone, and myself and many of my neighbours really miss it. The Eatery is okay but is lacking for regular Canadian fare that is available at only A&W and McDonald’s. It would be great to have Italian pasta fare and a Kentucky Fried Chicken, like they use to have. They do have great pizza, at Pizza Garden.

It seems that now I will have to go out to Coquitlam Centre, which through the years has gotten better. I don't know that all the construction going on will change much. I just hope that Lougheed Mall goes back to being a mall for everyone.
