Dear Editor: Re: Former KGB agent offered ticket to Russia, Burnaby NOW, Jan. 1. After reading this story, I found it quite disturbing that a "civil liberties" organization here in B.C.

Do you want to have your say in Kinder Morgan's pipeline application hearing with the National Energy Board? People who are directly affected by the project or have information and expertise to offer are eligible to apply as intervenors.

Who can really blame politicians for playing dodge ball with the media? After all, it works. The latest example of this political manoeuvre-come-business-as-usual practice happened in Burnaby on Monday.

Every time a new year begins, I always wonder whether politicians will change their behaviour when it comes to some key issues over the next 12 months.

Dear Editor: I thank you for your coverage of the bus loop controversy. I attended the recent council chamber hearing on the Brentwood redevelopment. Mayor Derek Corrigan led the charge.

Dear Editor: I congratulate the Burnaby NOW for its choice of MLA Jane Shin as its newsmaker of the year. Burnaby-Lougheed voters bucked the provincial trend, and Shin was one of only four NDP candidates to take a seat from the B.C.

There’s not much point at looking back at the big political stories of the past year. The stunning result of the May provincial election pretty well dwarfs everything else. The election result almost redefined B.C.

Dear Editor: “Is it my job to feed my neighbour’s child? I don’t think so.” That was the gist of the recent headline-grabbing response by Federal Industry Minister James Moore to B.C.’s record on child poverty.

Dear Editor: Re: City to apply for intervenor status in Kinder Morgan expansion, Burnaby NOW, Dec. 27. As a North Burnaby resident for 56 years, I am astonished that Kinder Morgan would believe that N.B.

Dear Editor: It seems that our venerable mayor’s only ambition for the forthcoming year is to stop the twinning of the Kinder Morgan pipeline and its transit through Burnaby.
