Simon Fraser University sent Pacific University a message in its varsity football season opener. The Clan opened the 2012 season with a rollicking 51-14 victory over the NCAA Division III school in Forest Grove, Oregon on Aug. 30.

Bowler qualifies for worlds

Burnaby's James MacGowan won the Canadian Pro Bowlers Association world indoor singles qualifier in Toronto earlier this month. The win qualifies MacGowan for the world indoor bowls championships in England in January.

CFL player of the month

Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish was named Canadian player of the month in the CFL. During the month of August, Cornish, a former St. Thomas More Collegiate provincial player of the year, rushed for 372 yards in three games, averaging 6.
