The Fraser Valley Phantom fell to Pacific rivals the Edmonton Thunder in their opening game Sunday night at the fifth annual Esso Cup National Female Midget Championships, underway in Burnaby.

In less than a week, the best female midget hockey teams from across the country will be in Burnaby to fight for the top spot in this year's Esso Cup. From April 21 to 27, six teams will battle it out in the National Female Midget Championship.

Simon Fraser University's Emma Chadsey set a new meet record this weekend, while the university played host to the Emilie Mondor track and field invitational on April 13.

Burnaby soccer club beats ICST Pegasus 3-2 in first round of provincial cup

Edward Chen of Burnaby, finished third in the boys 15-19 Canadian Junior Golf Association's Swan-e-set tournament in Pitt Meadows this past weekend. Chen - who placed sixth after the first round of play Saturday - came back stronger on Sunday.

Burnaby Lake Rugby Club managed to hold on to first place in the Canadian Direct Premier League, despite losing 16-23 against the Castaway Wanderers Saturday.
